The International Cricket Council (ICC)’s Cricket Committee recommended banning the use of saliva to shine the ball once cricket resumes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
ICC’s cricket committee under the chairmanship of Anil Kumble met on Monday via teleconference. The committee discussed safety measures to make sure the safe return of cricket under ongoing circumstances.
“No artificial substance at all. Sweat will be sufficient. The use of sweat to buff the ball was an equally effective alternative to saliva,” Cricket committee recommended.
On the other hand, the recommendations were also there to temporarily appoint home umpires. “Given the challenges of international travel with borders being closed, limited commercial flights and mandatory quarantine periods, the Committee recommended that local match officials be appointed in the short-term,” the ICC said in a statement.
